Joel Myles & The Jetpack Academy has gained serious momentum around Brisbane and abroad of late. They enjoyed a successful release of the Debut EP “Kaleidoscope the Keys” in April 2010 to a full house at The Troubadour and opening for Wolfmother at the start of the tour.
The past few years has seen some notable achievements for Joel and his band. Joel’s track Sidewalk Stray was shortlisted to the top 125 in the Vanda and Young Song Competition out of 3,156 entries in 2010. “Smoke and Mirrors” the first single lifted from the EP has been spun on Commercial radio station Nova 106.9fm in Brisbane and i98fm Australian Music Program in Sydney. Joel’s EP was selected by AMPRAP AirIT program to be delivered to community radio stations around the country, over 40 stations downloaded tracks and added to their playlists.
Smoke and mirrors was named “Best Recording” in the MVMU Competition and the Music Video made in collaboration with Enjoy Productions won “Best Video”, “Best Editing” and also “Best Director” in the 2010 Music Video Mash Up Competition. The clip was aired nationally on Video Hits. The Video was serviced to a number of Music Video Outlets.
The Brisbane based singer/songwriter has performed as a soloist and with a band alongside some of Australia’s top acts such as Wolfmother, Eskimo Joe, The Living End, Karnivool, The Screaming Jets, Thirsty Merc, Jebediah, Pollyanna, Diesel, Jonothan Boulet and Shihad. Joel has an incredible amount of live performance experience opening Main Stage at Splendour in the Grass Sunday August 1, 2010 with his Alternative Rock band RVLR.
Joel Myles and the Jetpack Academy frequent Brisbane’s best stages. Last year they played the Hale St Stage at the Caxton St Seafood Festival and have made appearances at Brisbane’s most prestigious venues including The Hi fi, The Zoo, The Troubadour, Rics, The Globe. Joel is currently writing and in pre-production for an album. The band will be heading into the studio around November.
Joel Myles is an artist with a gift for clever wordplay. His songs are diverse, engaging, catchy and delivered with passion, exuberance and punch by his full Rock band sound. Not your typical singer-songwriter. Joel has been influenced by many guitar driven bands such as Powderfinger, Foo Fighters, R.E.M, Silverchair and mixes his musical interests in Blur, The Beatles, Joy Division, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Whitlams and Josh Pyke into a unique Pop Rock Australian sound that sets him apart from other Male artist solo stories.
